What is Moonstone?

Moonstone is a variety of the mineral feldspar. This is characterised by its pearly and iridescent sheen, known as adularescence. The stone's appearance is caused by light diffraction within the stone's layers.

The color of gemstone is translucent, and ranges from colorless to gray, brown, yellow, green, or pink. Moonstone is commonly found in Sri Lanka, Madagascar, India, and Myanmar. Its hardness is 6 to 6.5 on the Mohs scale, making it relatively soft and susceptible to scratches. Moonstone is believed to have a calming effect on emotions, and is often used in jewelry for its mystical and romantic qualities.
